UNITED NATIONS  (WUP) ....  “Iran is a peace-loving Nation and spares no effort toward achieving the world s stability and peace and a world free of nuclear weapons,” stated Mohammad Ali Hosseini the  Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran at a recent high-level UN meeting.

It was the meeting of the  Preparatory Committee of the 2010 Non-Proliferation Treaty, where he also made sure to point out that Iran´s nuclear facilities are only for peaceful uses.

He said that a source of real concern to the international community was the continuous nuclear cooperation of United States , Britain and France with the “Zionist Regime.” The Zionist Regime s nuclear weapon facilities and arsenals are real threats to all countries of the region and defiance of this regime to international calls to accede to the Treaty has been the main obstacle in realizing a nuclear weapon free zone in the Middle East.

He went on to say that nuclear weapons in the hands of such a regime would lead to a catastrophe.  To illustrate his point he listed the, “recent brutal massacre of women and children in Gaza , the use of internationally prohibited and devastating weapons, such as those containing phosphorus and depleted uranium, and defying any call by the international community to stop the bloodshed of the innocent people.  This shows, he said, “how much a nuclear weapon in the hands of such a regime could endanger the region.”

Meanwhile in Washington, the Whitehouse Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel told the AIPAC Conference that, “ Iran is the number one threat to the Middle-East.

A few days before Iranian President Ahmadinejad high-jacked the Durban II conference on Racism in Geneva where he performed his usual tirade of incitement and hate toward Israel, his Ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Khazaee sent a letter to the President of the Security Council which appeared to be an S.O.S, requesting protection from dangerous Israel.   This letter was circulated as an official UN document which began, “Upon instructions from my Government regarding the unlawful and insolent threats of resorting to force against the Islamic Republic of Iran by the Israeli regime, who publicly threaten to resort to force against Iran and is continuing unabated in total defiance of international law particularly the provisions of the Charter which call for refraining from the threat of use of force against another State.

He said that Israel persists in vicious threats against his country because of, “ Iran s sympathy towards the innocent Palestinian people, while it continues its war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Arab peoples under its brutal occupation.”

He quoted part of statements by  Israeli President Shimon Peres saying, ¨we will strike Iran,¨ and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to have said they ¨may attack Iran´s nuclear facilities.¨

Khazaee complained bitterly about the absence of any action on the part of United Nations to “do something about these unlawful threats, which embolden the Israeli regime.¨

He went on to say, “These outrageous threats of resorting to criminal and terrorist acts against a sovereign country and a Member of the United Nations not only display the aggressive and warmongering nature of the Zionist regime, but also constitute blatant violations of international law and the most fundamental principles of the UN Charter.

He thought the Security Council should react to these vicious statements by condemning them and call on Israel to cease and desist immediately from the threat of using force against a Member of the United Nations.
“As we have stressed time and again, while the Islamic Republic of Iran has never threatened nor has any intention to threaten other nations, nonetheless and inresponse to any aggression, it will not hesitate to act in self defense to protect itselfand its people in accordance with its inherent right under Article 5l of the Charter of the UN which is the right of self-defense.” This sounds like a threat.

This is the same country whose President wants to ¨wipe Israel off the map,¨ and constantly advocates Israel s destruction and is the force behind his country s nuclear ambitions. Iran actively supports the two terror groups, Hamas and Hizbollah who also express the desire to completely eliminate Israel.

Are they planning to use this legitimate UN charter Article 51 as an excuse to attack Israel by showing in an official document how they feel threatened?
