By: Gad Nashon

"Tourism to Israel increased seven percent from January- June, 1996 over the same period of 1995. And tourism from the U.S.A. was up 7%," said Uzi Michaeli, Israel's Commissioner for Tourism in North America.

In 1995, 2.5 million tourists visited Israel, of whom some 20% (500,000) were from North America. Israel still celebrates its "Jerusalem 3000" with a series of spectacular happenings (Jerusalem Marathon, November 6, 1996) and prepares for its Golden Anniversary in 1998.
