Furor Over Hitler Wine
Washington, D.C. -- An Italian bottling company has created a furor with its "Fuehrer" wine and B'nai B'rith is appalled at their insensitivity.
"It is a sad day when a company has to use a brutal murderer to sell its product," said Tommy P. Baer, international president of B'nai B'rith.
The wine, which includes Adolf Hitler's picture on the label, comes in two types -- "Zeig Heil" and "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuehrer" (One People, One Empire, One Ruler). Some of their other wines feature pictures of Joseph Stalin and Fidel Castro.
"The owners of this winery may be clever in marketing but they are tasteless in promoting a ruthless demon who was responsible for more deaths than any other person in the history of mankind," said Baer whose family narrowly escaped from Germany 50 years ago to escape from Hitler.
"What does this winery hope to accomplish with Hitler's face appearing on the label? And are they trying to foment antisemitism? Baer asked.
