ISRAEL URGES AMERICAN JEWS TO VISIT ISRAEL

Israel Minister of Tourism, Moshe Katsav, urged American Jews to visit Israel. He pointed out that only 25% of American Jews have visited the country. He suggested that the Conference of Presidents should establish a "Task Force on Tourism" in order to promote tourism to Israel.

He also mentioned in his speech at the Conference of Presidents in New York City that Israel has already begun to plan special projects for 1988 when Israel will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Mr. Katsav alerted the Jewish leaders to the fact that a visit in Israel is a good response to the assimilation tendency of the American Jewry in the next century. "A visit in Israel also means the fact that the visitor coming back from Israel will join a Jewish organization," remarked Katsav, who is also Israeli Deputy Prime Minister.
